About the role
You will own web projects end to end: scoping the work with the client, planning it with the team, and staying close enough to the code to make good calls when the plan meets reality. This is a hands-on management role, not a purely administrative one. You are expected to read the codebase, review approaches and hold the technical line.
What you will do
- Run delivery for a portfolio of web projects, from kickoff through launch and handover.
- Translate what a client actually needs into a scope, a schedule and a set of estimates the team can commit to.
- Work alongside developers, designers and QA day to day, unblocking rather than reporting.
- Review technical approaches before they are built, and push back when a shortcut will cost more later.
- Keep clients informed with honest status, including when something has slipped and what you are doing about it.
- Own quality at handover: documentation, deployment, and a client who knows how to use what they paid for.
What we are looking for
- Around seven years in web delivery, with real time spent building before managing.
- In-depth competency in PHP, MySQL, Ajax, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, DHTML, XML, CSS and Linux.
- A track record of shipping projects on a schedule you helped set, not one handed to you.
- Comfort with the client conversation, including the awkward parts.
- Clear written English. Most of the record of a project lives in writing.
How we work
Small teams with short lines. You will have the authority to make decisions on your projects and the responsibility that comes with it. We would rather hear about a problem early than see a green status report that was never true.
