About the role
You will build Android applications for our clients, from the first screen to the release on Google Play. You will be close to the product decisions, not handed a finished spec, so an eye for how something should feel to use matters as much as how it is built.
What you will do
- Develop applications for mobile devices on the Android operating system.
- Turn designs into interfaces that hold up on real devices, on real networks.
- Integrate the APIs the app depends on, and handle the failure cases rather than the happy path alone.
- Write code other people can maintain: readable, tested where it matters, and reviewed.
- See releases through, including store submission, crash reports and the fixes that follow.
What we are looking for
- Around two years building Android applications, with something shipped you can talk us through.
- Kotlin or Java, the Android SDK, and a working understanding of the platform lifecycle.
- Comfort consuming REST APIs and handling state, offline behaviour and errors sensibly.
- Version control as a habit, not an afterthought.
- Curiosity about what the app is for, not only how it is built.
How we work
You will not be the only person who touches the code, and you will not be left alone with a hard problem either. Expect review, pairing when it helps, and room to argue for a better approach.
